After Solomon’s death, Israel split into two kingdoms: Judah in the south and Israel in the north. Jehoshaphat, the third king of Judah, was a godly man, but he made a critical mistake by allying with Ahab, the wicked king of Israel, through marriage. Ahab convinced Jehoshaphat to fight the Arameans for Ramoth-Gilead, a territory surrounded by hostile nations. Despite God’s warning, they went to battle and were defeated. Ahab was killed, and Jehoshaphat barely escaped with his life.

Soon after, Judah faced an even greater threat. A vast army of Ammonites, Moabites, and Edomites advanced toward Jerusalem, reaching Engedi—just 36 miles away. This time, Jehoshaphat did not act in haste. Instead, he humbled himself before God, proclaimed a fast, and led the people in prayer. He prayed, declaring their dependence on God: “We have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you” (2 Chronicles 20:12).

God responded with a prophetic word: “The battle is not yours, but God’s” (2 Chronicles 20:15). Jehoshaphat and the people worshiped God and followed His instructions. Instead of using weapons, they sent singers ahead of the army to praise God, declaring, “Give thanks to the LORD, for his love endures forever” (2 Chronicles 20:21).

As they began to sing and praise, God caused the enemy armies to turn on each other, completely destroying themselves. When the people of Judah arrived, they found only the dead bodies of their enemies. God fought the battle for them, and they won through the power of praise and worship.
Jehoshaphat’s story shows us that praise has tremendous power to overcome the battles in our lives. When we praise, we invite God’s presence. His power transforms impossible situations and brings victory.

As Psalm 22:3 says, God inhabits the praises of His people.

If you’re facing adversity, follow Jehoshaphat’s example:
1. Seek God: Humbly admit your need and ask for His guidance.
2. Wait for His Strategy: Trust that God will give you a plan.
3. Praise Him: Worship invites God’s presence and unleashes His power to fight on your behalf.

Jehoshaphat’s victory reminds us that praise isn’t just worship—it’s a weapon. Whatever challenges you face, praise God, trust Him, and watch Him bring the breakthrough.
