This message is all about how you can lean on God during life’s toughest moments, just like David did in Psalm 42. When tragedy, heartbreak, or betrayal hits, it’s natural to cry out, “Why, God? Why?”

David did the same thing. At the time, he was literally running for his life—his own son, Absalom, had betrayed him, taken his throne, and was trying to kill him. On top of that, even some of David’s closest friends had turned on him. He was crushed, discouraged, and heartbroken.

But instead of staying in that dark place, David made a choice. In verse 5, he talks to himself: “Why am I so discouraged? Why is my heart so sad?” Then he decides: “I will put my hope in God. I will praise him again, my Savior and my God.” David chose to lift his eyes to God, to see Him as bigger than his problems. He didn’t let doubt, defeat, or self-pity pull him under.

And you can make that same choice. No matter what you’re going through, you can choose to put your hope in God. David trusted God for forgiveness, grace, and favor—and God gave it to him. He’ll do the same for you. In verse 8, David says, “Each day the Lord pours his unfailing love upon me.” Even in the middle of his chaos, David stopped trying to figure out why everything was happening and simply turned to God.

Here’s the truth: just because you’re going through something hard doesn’t mean God isn’t with you. He’s right there, loving you through it. Don’t let the tough times push you away from Him. Instead, let them draw you closer. He’s got you.
