Carlos caught Ann stealing bread and meat from the store where he worked. Then he discovered that Ann was homeless with two hungry daughters. Instead of pressing charges, he persuaded the owner to hire her to stock shelves. Carlos also helped Ann and her girls find a homeless shelter until they could get back on their feet.
The way most of us think about justice is giving people what they should receive, either punishment or reward. Jesus doesn't give us what we deserve. The justice Jesus brought to earth is not rooted in punishment but in compassion and forgiveness. His justice convicts us of sin, but it also leads us to repentance.
It's a justice that restores what is broken, heals what is wounded, and transforms us into new people. Ephesians 4:32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other. Just as in Christ, God forgave you. 1 Peter 4:8 above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
