Holy Spirit's heart is for us to overflow with the love and the joy, the peace and the kindness of Christ, splashing everyone around us as we walk through life. We were created to be light to those living in darkness. Holy Spirit works in us to make us shine brightly.
Unless we're healed and restored, the wounds and pain of our past will cause us to limp through life, born again, but broken and causing ourselves and others great pain. Holy Spirit wants to heal our brokenness, restore our sense of worth, our confidence, and our ability to believe that God can do great things in us and through us.
Uh, restoration begins when we surrender our lives to God and ask Holy Spirit to heal us and restore our souls. David wrote, “The Lord is my shepherd… He restores my soul.” Psalm 21:1, 3. Who restores our souls? The Lord does. Only he can. We can't do this ourselves.
You know that's true. You've tried and failed again and again. Self help is ridiculously inadequate. We don't even know who we're going to become once we're restored. And we don't have holiness to give to ourselves. We can't grow the personality and character of Jesus. We have to receive them from the Holy Spirit.
Begin by asking Holy Spirit what He wants to change, what he wants to restore. Ask him to help you and commit to do what he tells you to do. Holy Spirit will show you things, things that need to change. Usually he gives you one thing at a time. I've found that he begins with the thing that's causing the most pain in your life.
He wants to remove that pain and restore to you the freedom, the peace and joy that Jesus died to give you. He wants to set you free and lovingly heal your broken.
