Adversity comes into all our lives. Pick up the rod that God gave you. Pick up the authority of God—His promises. Faith comes by the rhema, the words that God speaks to us.

Romans 10:17 says, “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” The word “word” here, in the language this scripture was written in, is the Greek word rhema.

Rhema is not just a written word on a page. Rhema is something spoken directly to someone. So faith comes from hearing—and hearing by what Christ says. This is one of the ways God speaks to us.

If you’re praying with people and two of you get the same scripture, it’s a pretty good confirmation. Now you’re ready to pray! Hearing God gives us faith, which casts out fear and double-mindedness.

Mark 11:24 says, “Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” The prayer of faith moves mountains. It takes problems out of our lives.

Faith connects us to the authority Jesus gave us. When you know what God says about a situation, you have so much faith that you can take hold of the authority and change things.

Mark 11:22-24 says, “Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”

Mountains in scripture often symbolize problems. Jesus is literally telling us to speak to our problems. Tell them to move. What Jesus is saying is that you have to get to the point where you have no doubt. You have to get to the point where you know what God’s will is.

Faith is a connector that releases God’s power into our situation. Faith is when you come to a point where the promises of God become greater than the circumstances you face. This is how we overcome. This is how we step out in confident faith—stretching forth the rod of God’s Word, walking in Jesus’ authority, and releasing God’s power.
