You can live a totally obscure life with no great accomplishments, no great fame, no great wealth, and no great power, but have lived a life of great significance.
Merriam Webster Dictionary defines significant as having or likely to have influence or effect important. It continues, significance implies a quality or character that should mark a thing as important, but that is not self evident and may or may not be recognized.
Your significance may not be evident and you may never be recognized publicly or receive any awards. The greater question is not what people think, but what will Jesus think when you arrive in heaven and stand before him to receive your reward for the life you lived on earth? Jesus, the most significant man to ever walk the earth, was significant not because he was famous or even because of the many miracles that he did.
Jesus life was significant because he humbled himself. He left God's side in heaven, came to earth as a tiny human baby, and lived as a servant to men, even allowing them to murder him so through his death they could have life. Matthew 20:28 says, the son of man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many, paying the price to set them free from the penalty of sin.
Jesus said that in the world kings and great men lorded over the people, and he continues in Luke 22:26 but this is not your calling. You will lead by a different model. The greatest one among you will live as one called to serve others without honor. The greatest honor and authority is reserved for the one who has a servant heart.
God created you to live a life of significance, a life of influence. Significance comes from having a servant heart, the heart of God today serve someone in your life.
