What fruit of the Holy Spirit do you most need in your life? Is it love or peace? Maybe some more patience, kindness, gentleness, or self-control? Daily, read scriptures about that character trait. Read stories of Jesus' life where He demonstrates those traits.

Romans 12:2 NLT
"Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think."

Ask the Holy Spirit to help you develop those traits. The Holy Spirit will answer that prayer. But I warn you, character is born in the fire of adversity. Scripture empowers us, but character must be tested to be developed. It's like a muscle. Our muscles don't get stronger until we use them.

And actually, the old muscles are torn, then new muscles form. Character development is very much that way. Sometimes, it can be a painful process, but the breakthrough is worth it. You may have circumstances that test that character trait once you pray that prayer—and you may fail.

It's okay. You're in Christ's school of character. He's really glad that you're there. He wants you to stay in the class. Don't drop the class because it gets tough. Get up, dust yourself off, learn from your failures, and overcome the next time with Christ's character empowering you.

The Holy Spirit doesn't condemn you or make you feel guilty or ashamed. Satan is the accuser, not God. The Holy Spirit may convict you and show you what's wrong, and He will—but you will feel God's love as He does it.
What's holding many of us back from the greater assignments God has for us is our character. You need His character to carry the weight of the glory of the work He has prepared for you to do.

Go, put on Christ's character, and transform your world.
