Jesus extends a timeless invitation to us in Matthew 11:28. “Come to me.” Jesus came to earth for one reason, to enable us to draw near to God.
John 12:32
“And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.” In Romans 8:15.
“The Spirit you received does not make you slaves so that you live in fear again, but rather the Spirit [a capital S here, meaning Holy Spirit] you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, Abba. Father.”
You come to Jesus not as a tiny human being, one of billions. You come to him as a brother or a sister. You come to him as a son, a daughter of God.
He's the most powerful being in existence. His words can move mountains, stop storms, create life, command dark demonic forces, stop time. Yet with us he is gentle, kind, loving and forgiving.
Jesus the Creator humbled himself to take the form of a man, to be born as a diaper, soiling, squalling infant so he could reveal God to us in a way that we could understand. He humbled himself so he could show us what a man empowered by the Holy Spirit could do.
He showed us who we could become.
