I’d been an alcoholic for 10 years, and I’d been a Christian for less than two years when I went to China. God sent me to China because I had asked Him for more time with Him. I asked Him if I could work for Him full-time.
My greatest fear was that, as an alcoholic, I would go back to drinking again. I felt that if I really got to know God, if I had more time with Him, I would never do that. So, I went to China knowing I was a deeply flawed person. I was painfully aware of how wounded I was from 10 years of being an alcoholic.
I was still a mess. And yet, people saw a difference in me. It wasn’t me at all—they saw Jesus. God used me, a deeply flawed young Christian, to be a light to people who lived in what Isaiah described as "deep darkness." Everyone who doesn’t know Jesus lives in deep darkness.
The people I shared Jesus with in China—many of them had never met a Christian. Some of them knew nothing about Jesus.
Faith comes by hearing the Word of God, the message of Jesus Christ. God will make you a light to everyone around you. It’s His plan for your life. No matter if you’re a new Christian or if you think you’re not very mature, no matter how broken or flawed you are, you are the light of your world.
Go burn brightly for Jesus. If He could use me, as broken as I was back then, my friend, He can use you. You were born for this.
Today’s Activation:
Let your light shine before others so they see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16, NKJV)
Ask God this one question:
"Father, what good work can I do today that will bring You great glory in the hearts and minds of people?"
Now, go do what God told you. You may not get an immediate answer, but as you go throughout your day, expect to hear from God. Expect to get a nudge or notice something you can do that will bring glory to Him.
