8:51 Activation – Ask Jesus to Speak to You

A beautiful, actually radiant, Jan rushed at us as we entered the home fellowship the next week. She was holding open her journal for us to see. It was several days before she finally asked, “Jesus, what do you think about me?” But when she did Jesus answered her. It was a still small voice, but she was sure it was him. She read the words that Jesus said to her. Jesus told Jan how precious she was to him. He said he approved of her. And he told her that he loved her.

But the thing that changed Jan the most, was one morning as she was walking past a mirror, she felt she should stop. She looked in the mirror and Jesus said, “Jan, you are beautiful.”

That dark demonic presence that had been harassing Jan was long gone. The lies that had been built up in her life were destroyed in those few words, “Jan, you are beautiful.”

One word from Jesus really does change everything. Jan’s experience of the real, tangible love of God destroyed the lies she had begun to believe. Jan now saw herself as a beautiful, successful, dearly – loved daughter of God.

What happened here?

First, Jan told Gina “I can’t see that.”

2 Corinthians 4:4 NLT”

Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.

Jan literally was blinded to obvious truths about herself.

Satan creates blind spots in us too.

2nd The first line of defense against lies in our thoughts is God’s Word  (the Bible). Matthew 4. In answer to every  thing Satan used to tempt Jesus had the same answer. “It is written” and a Bible truth. The truth defeated Satan every time.

3rd Jan knew what the Bible said about her. But she believed the lies. She was struggling to hang on to God’s truth about her. God needed to change that.

Some strongly negative experience or many negative experiences had created the belief Jan had about her identity and appearance.

Strongly held beliefs are rarely changed by information. Jan needed an experience to change what she had come to believe about herself.

Jesus spoke healing words to Jan. Words that restored her.

Romans 10:17 NKJV “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” “Word” in the original Greek is “rhema”. It means the “spoken word.”

When Jan stopped in from of the mirror and Jesus told her she was beautiful, faith rose in her heart.  Hearing God changed Jan’s life.

She believed the truth and the truth set her free from the lie. (John 8:32)

That was a rhema from God.

Jan heard Jesus. You do too.

 John 10:27-28 NIV

Activation

You are a Christian because you heard Jesus and experienced God’s love. Jesus speaks to us more often than we realize. Most of us just need some practice to tune in to the “still small voice” He often uses when He speaks.

So, like Jan, let’s begin with one simple question: “Jesus, what do you think about me?”

Listen and He will tell you. It’s a personal question, so He won’t give you an “academic” answer.

I’ve had many people ask that question. Some have a first impression of a scripture verse. Keep listening. Jesus is more personal than that.
