How Do I Know God's Purpose for Me?

How Do I Know God's Purpose for Me?

Have you been praying and waiting on God to tell you your purpose in life – His plan for you? Yet God is silent. Here are Practical steps you can take today to find out God's plans and purpose for your life.

Many Christians have the same experience.

God doesn’t give us maps of where we are to go and what we are to do. He doesn’t want us to go off on our own. He wants to go with us. Holy Spirit will tell you the next step WHEN YOU START MOVING.

I’ve heard this answer from the great Christians I’ve met in my life. None of them had “Lightning bolt” experiences where God shows them His plan for them. All were given one step – two at most at a time. And all had to be doing something before they got specific instructions. This has also been my experience.

To discover God’s specific purpose for your life, begin with what you already know.

As you begin to walk in what you already know, you’ll find that Holy Spirit will give you specific assignments

Scripture Reveals That  first and Greatest Purpose of Your Life is Love

Mark 12:29-31 NCV

“The most important command is… Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ The second command is this: ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’”

The 3 buckets

There are 3 simple things you can do today that will start you on God’s path for your life. As you walk this path, Holy Spirit will reveal specific works God planned for you to do long before you were born. And you will discover the purpose of your life.

God is Love. 1 John 4:8

The 3 Buckets to be filled every day are Know – Grow – Show.

Bucket 1 Know Love – we must “be loved” before we can love.

Ephesians 3:19 (NLT)

May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

Our ability to love depends upon having been loved. We can’t give God’s supernatural love (agape) unless we have first received it.

This bucket MUST be filled every morning. This is the bucket you drink from all day, every day, for the rest of your life. Without this bucket, nothing else matters.

To know love is to let God love you and to grow your relationship with Him by loving Him in return.

Knowing God as Love comes from meeting with Him every morning. Praise and Worship, Thanksgiving, reading the Bible and Prayer.

Bucket 2. Grow Love - We need God’s character to complete God’s plans for our lives.

Growing love is developing the character of Christ. This is the work of the Holy Spirit as we renew our minds with God’s Word (See Romans 12:2). Both the Spirit and the Word make us holy and set us apart for God’s purposes. (See Romans 15:16 and John 17:17)

Holy Spirit  produces Christ’s character in us because we can’t produce it in ourselves. We don’t have godliness to give to ourselves. We must receive it.

God gives us specific assignments only when we are mature enough to handle them. Maturity is measured by our ability to love.

Bucket 3. Show Love

Love others as God has loved us.

We love people by giving to them, expressing our love in a million ways. Every day, receive from God and give Time. Attention. Compassion. Understanding. Listening. Hugs. Touches. Gifts.

The 3 Buckets will help you focus Your Christian life on what really matters. Fill the Know Love-Grow Love-Show Love buckets every day. And at the end of your life:

You will have become the person God created you to be.

You will have discovered the meaning and purpose of your life.

And You will have done what God planned and prepared for you to do.
